ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Hina) - The Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO) on
Sunday condemned secret services for encroaching upon basic human
rights and requested that those ordering such actions be removed
from the political scene.
In a statement released today the HHO condemns the case of misuse of
medical documentation of Drago Hedl, a journalist with the Croatian
satirical weekly "Feral Tribune".
Hedl's allegedly original hospital documentation on his suicide
attempt, released on the Internet, was aimed at publicly
discrediting the reporter, the HHO says.
Hedl came under attack because of his critical articles about some
people in power, especially the former Osijek-Baranja County
prefect Branimir Glavas.
The HHO calls on the public and opposition MPs to persevere in their
demand for a thorough investigation into the possible misuse of
secret services and the punishment of those responsible for it.
