BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- NATO-led peacekeepers today arrested a Bosnian Serb
general charged in the 1995 massacre of Muslims in Bosnia and will send him to stand
trial before an international war crimes tribunal.
Gen. Radislav Krstic is the ninth war crimes suspect to be arrested in the former
Yugoslavia by international forces. He is charged in a sealed indictment with the
massacre of Muslims following the Serb takeover of a U.N. safe haven at Srebrenica in
eastern Bosnia in July 1995.
The International War Crimes Tribunal's chief prosecutor, Louise Arbour, called Krstic
``a very significant military leader'' and said she was delighted with the arrest. She said
she believed Krstic was still serving in the Bosnian Serb Army.
NATO Secretary General Javier Solana warned that other war crimes suspects ``who
are still at large should realize they, too will be brought to justice.''
Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his wartime military chief Gen.
Ratko Mladic both have been indicted for genocide for allegedly masterminding the
massacre at Srebrenica.
Neither Karadzic nor Mladic is in custody.
