Milosevic: no return to
Kosovo autonomy
The Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic, has
said he will not accept Kosovo's ethnic Albanian
majority getting the same degree of autonomy it
had under communist rule.
Mr Milosevic told the American Newsweek
magazine that any settlement for the future of
Kosovo must be based on all nationalities having
an equal say in the province's affairs, irrespective
of their size.
He said that American-sponsored peace
proposals, which envisage greater autonomy for
Kosovo, favour ethnic-Albanians.
And he reaffirmed that Yugoslavia will not allow
NATO troops to enter Kosovo.
Mr Milosevic said NATO action in Kosovo would be
an act of aggression which Yugoslav forces would
resist.
