ON FEBRUARY 26 EXPIRES THREE YEARS TERM LET OFF FOR RUSSIA TO RATIFY THE 6TH PROTOCOL TO THE EUROPEAN CONVENTION ON HUMAN RIGHTS ABOUT ABOLITION OF DEATH PENALTY

ON FEBRUARY 25 PRESS CONFERENCE OF RADICAL PARTY

Moscow, February 23, 1999. -- On February 26 expires three years term let off for Russian Federation to ratify the 6th facultative protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights about abolition of death penalty according to the obligations which were taken up by Russia at its entering into this organization.

During last month the activists of Radical Party were picketing the State Duma building in Okhotny Ryad each Wednesday and Friday (days of plenary sessions), counting down the time remaining for MPs on reflection: death penalty or Council of Europe?

Next picket at the State Duma is scheduled on Wednesday, February 24, at 9.00. Last of planned manifestations is planned at 9.00 on Friday, February 26.

One day earlier, on Thursday, February 25, in National Press Institute (Zubovsky Boulevard 22/39, 3rd floor) will be held the press conference of Radical Party devoted to this subject.

In the press conference will take part:

- Valerij BORSCEV, member of the State Duma ("Jabloko");

- Konstantin BOROVOJ, member of the State Duma (independent);

- Nikolaj KHRAMOV, Russian coordinator of Radical Party.
