BELGRADO/ appello studenti

IL SEGUENTE APPELLO E' STATO DIFFUSO VIA E-MAIL DA UN GRUPPO DI STUDENTI DI BELGRADO:

Dear friends,

We are sending You this e-mail while the alarm is announcing yet

another day

of bombing of Belgrade and Yugoslavia. We are deeply convinced that only an

action of clever people could prevent leaders - too often irresponsible -

to reproduce wrongdoing: bombing will provoke further atrocities among

various ethnical communities in Kosovo, while these developments will

provoke next round of bombing, etc. It is a real circulus vitiosus, which

will multiply if politicians do not think in political terms, instead of

in terms of power only.

Therefore, please try to raise Your voice wherever You can: in your

country, in media, at Internet , by forwarding this appeal... ! Do not

believe that military targets are the only ones; yesterday Belgrade

civilians were heavily affected! In other towns the situation is worse. In

six days, hundreds of civilians were

killed, including many refugees from Croatia and Bosnia, who sought for

shelter in Serbia after having been expelled from their homes in 1992-95.

Hungarians, Muslims,Bulgarians,Turks and other national minorities who live

in Yugoslavia also suffer from bombing and from Albanian terrorists (KLA) in

Kosovo. The same happens to Albanians who are loyal to Yugoslavia

Isn't that a "humanitarian catastrophe" as well?

The bombs also affect people who have never supported Milosevic's

regime. They are young people like You, and many of them are in the army

now, waiting NATO missiles. If one man is always accused for all problems on

the Balkans , if NATO expects him to do what they want, is it logical and

fair to bomb whole nation.

Do not forget that the Albanian separatists started this war in March

1998 in order to create

Greater Albania. Serbia and its citizens are obliged to defend its

sovereignty and its province Kosovo which significance for Serbs cannot be

compared with anything in their history. We don't want Kosovo without

Albanians;we want to live together.

If the international community rests on the principles of humanity, why

no similar action took place when Turks performed atrocities and ethnic

cleansing against Curds - both Turkey and in neighboring Iraq - or when

Croats expelled 300. 000 Serbs from their homes few years ago?

This time so many rules of international law have been broken in the

Serbian case. A real (not CNN simulated) "humanitarian catastrophe" is

really occurring on both sides, and it will reach unimaginable dimensions

if the bombing will not be stopped. Above all, please, do not forget that

NATO aggression is a question of international law which will not exist

anymore if such way of "solving problems" passes and become a practice !

From now on, the UN are of no significance, as NATO acted without the

consent of UN Security Council, for the first time in the history. Who will

be the next !?

I hope that this e-mail will reach You in between two attacks.

Yours truly,

students from Yugoslavia
