(EU) NEWS OF THE WEEK: from 26 April to 2 May 1999
EP/Esperanto: The ERA (Esperanto Radical Association), chaired by Leo Solari,
organised on 29 and 30 April in Brussels, with the participation, notably, of Nobel Prize Winner for Economy 1994 Reinhard Selten and MEPs Dell'Alba, Dupuis and Moretti, a seminar on the protection of linguistic minorities and the safeguarding of the "linguistic ecosystem", as well as the "cost of European linguistic non-communication". In the presence, notably, of the Director of the linguistic sector of UNESCO, Joseph Poth, and the President of the European Bureau of Lesser Used Languages, Bojan Brezigar, the participants discussed the possibility of making esperanto the "European federal language".
