For the sake of your legacy and U.S. credibility, we hoped and pray that you resist the temptation to appease Slobodan Milosevic. Do not repeat the mistake
of Neville Chambertain.
Mr. PRESIDENT PLEASE HONOR YOUR COMMITMENTS, DON'T SELL OUT THE KOSOVARS.
President Clinton:
As the world watched and listened you vowed to drive out all Serbian military, paramilitary and police forces from Kosovo and to return all Kosovar Albanian refugees to their homes where they would govern themselves under the protection of a friendly NATO force.
IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE SUCCESS OF NATO AND THE FUTURE OF ALL KOSOVAR ALBANIAN PEOPLE THAT YOU HONOR YOUR COMMITMENTS.
Yet, all signs point to a White House and NATO abandonment of principles you declared non-negotiable.
The United Nations an accomplice to Serb genocide in Bosnia, has been invited by your administration into this diplomatic scene. RUSSIA, SERBIA'S MILLENNIUM-LONG ALLY, at your encouragement has stepped to the forefront hoping to dilute NATO's leadership and seeking to protect the security of Slobodan Milosevic.
THE MILLION DEPORTED ALBANIANS CANNOT RETURN TO A MILOSEVIC-CONTROLLED KOSOVA WITH UN "PEACEKEEPING FORCES" THAT INCLUDE RUSSIANS THEY CANNOT RETURN TO A RUSSIA CONTROL AND COMMAND OVER THEIR LIVES. THE REMAINING 600,000 ALBANIANS TRAPPED INSIDE KOSOVAR ARE IMPERILED NOT ONLY BY TORTURE AND MURDER, BUT ALSO BY STARVATION AND THEIR MONSTROUS IMPRISONMENT AS HUMAN SHIELDS.
The Kosovar Albanians have already suffered unspeakable horrors not seen since the Holocaust: the destruction of their homes and lives, forced evictions, rape, mutilation and massacre of tens of thousands of men, women and children. You cannot turn back the clock, but you can ensure that the survivors have a real future in their homeland - a future of freedom and hope.
YOU MUST REMAIN STEADFAST. YOU MUST ARTICULATE A POLICY THAT RESPECT U.S. PRINCIPLES, GOALS AND VALUES, NOT ONE THAT REWARDS MILOSEVIC FOR HIS CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY. Reign in the envoys who would compromise these principles and the future of Kosova for the sake of short-term political expediency.
MR. PRESIDENT, YOU CAN CHOOSE TO RESCUE KOSOVA FROM THE JAWS OF BELGRADE'S GENOCIDAL WAR MACHINE OR RESCUE THE WAR CRIMINAL MILOSEVIC FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT. CHOOSE WISELY, FOR HISTORY WILL BE YOUR JUDGE.
LET THE WORLD KNOW BY YOUR ACTIONS THAT, WHEN THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MAKES A COMMITMENT, THAT COMMITMENT WILL BE HONORED. Let NATO finish its job properly so that, once and for all, the peoples of the region can live securely in a post-Milosevic Balkans.
Thank you Mr. President
