BONN, June 16 (AFP) - The Dalai Lama held talks here Wednesday with German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer on the role of Buddhists and human rights in Tibet, during a one-week visit to Germany.
China has expressed opposition to the Tibetan spiritual leader's visit, saying he was bent on sabotaging national unity.
"The Dalai Lama is not an ordinary religious person, but a politician in exile who has long been involved in splitting China and sabotaging national unity," foreign ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said.
"We have consistently opposed the way in which the Dalai Lama visits certain countries under the pretext of carrying out religious activities," Zhang said.
On Tuesday, the Nobel Prize winning Tibetan hailed Bonn's efforts at reaching a political solution to the Tibet issue.
During his visit to Bonn, the Dalai Lama is also expected to meet with German Interior Minister Otto Schily.
