MEP Olivier Dupuis, Belgian member of the Radical Alliance group, has stated that the policy suggested for FYROM, Albania and other other Balkan countries by European Commissioner Hans van den Broek and future Commission President Romano Prodi is "exactly the opposite of what these countries and the Europen Union urgently need: a clear political project aimed at full and early accession of these countries to the EU". Mr Dupuis criticises Van den Broek and Prodi for proposing a policy based on economic and financial interventions "disguised" under definitions like "stability pact" and "accession agreements". The MEP says European taxpayers will pay for the losses and profits will be privatised to the benefit of certain enterprises.
