Moscow, February 19, 2000. Activists of the Radical Party and Antimilitarist Radical Association (ARA) participated today in a big manifestation against war in Chechnya in Moscow's downtown. The action has been organized by the recently refounded Committee for Anti-War Action, which unites representatives of Radical Party, ARA, Memorial Society, Union of Soldiers' Mothers Committees and several other organizations.
After the rally on Teatralnaya Square in front of Bolshoy Theater with interventions of Valerij Borscev (former member of State Duma), Oleg Orlov from Memorial, Ljudmila Obrazcova from Soldiers' Mothers, Nikolaj Khramov from Radical Party/ARA and other speakers, there was a march to Lubjanka Square where manifestators layed down the flowers to the monument of Gulag victims in order to underline that current actions of Putin's regime in Chechnya does not differ very much with Stalinist repressions.
There were about 500 people participating in the manifestation, thus it was the biggest anti-war action in Russia since the beginning of the second Chechen war.
