UN - RUSSIA - RADICAL PARTY:

PUTIN'S REGIME WHICH WAS EXCOMMUNICATED FROM THE PACE, IS TRYING TO TAKE ITS REVENGE AT THE UN AT THE EXPENSE OF THE RADICAL PARTY

DECLARATION OF NIKOLAY KHRAMOV, RUSSIAN COORDINATOR OF THE TRANSNATIONAL RADICAL PARTY:

"As is generally known, in spring the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe suspended powers of the Russian delegation because of numerous gross violations of human rights commited by the Russian army during the criminal war in Chechnya. Now the State Duma - on the proposal of the committee for international affairs headed by Mr.Rogozin, a relentless fighter for the "balkanization" of all the post-Soviet space after the pattern of Miloshevich's "Great Serbia" - decided not to send its delegation to the regular session in Strasbourg.

Meanwhile the Putin's regime which was excommunicated from the PACE is trying to take its revenge at the UN attacking the Radical Party because it dared to speak publicly about the military crimes commited in Chechnya by the Russian army, and demanding to withdraw the status of the non-governmental organization at the UN from the TRP.

The radicals working in Russia know by their own experience that this isn't an isolated episode but a part of the policies of the Putin's regime towards our organization. Last year the chairman of the Duma committee for defense general Roman Popkovich(the member of the pro-governmental faction "Our home - Russia") demanded that the General Prosecutor's Office institute criminal proceedings in respect of the radicals for the "anti-state activities". The reason is the campaign "Third Milleniumwithout Conscription Slavery" organized by the Radical Party and the Antimilitarist Radical Association and aimed at the abolition of the conscription and the transition to a professional army. TV channels continue to transmit inspired by the secret services public accusations of the Radical Party of being the "accomplice of narcomafia" - because we propose a pragmatic alternative to the prohibitionist policies in respect of drugs.

Fortunately, there is another Russia besides Putin's Russia. Russia of Sergey Kovalyov. Russia of Grigory Yavlinsky. Russia of the "Memorial" activists who risk their lifes collecting testimonies of the military crimes in Chechnya. Finally, Russia of the radicals who were the first in our country to speak publicly against the second Chechen war. And today, as never before, this another Russia needs the support of democrats and friends of freedom from all the world".
