"Yedinstvo" is against changes in the order of elections to the Duma
Vice-chairman of the Duma faction "Yedinstvo" Frants Klintsevich accused regional leaders of lobbying for the law changing the order of elections to the lower chamber. "We oppose changes in the present system of elections to the State Duma which the representatives of regional elites are trying to lobby through" - he said. According to Klintsevich, some governors try to implement through the deputy group "Russia" the law directed to broaden representation of deputies from regions in the chamber. "Such proposals are playing into the hands of regional barons who are afraid to lose their positions in the Council of Federation after the reform proposed by the president of Russia Vladimir Putin", - the vice-chairman of "Yedinstvo" said.- "Of course, it is more easy to achieve the election of a friendly candidate under the majoritary system". As a matter of fact, Klintsevich commented the legislative initiative of the member of the group "Rossiyskiye regiony" Andrey Klimov who considers advisable to elect in
the one-mandate districts 300 parliamentaries instead of 225, as it is now. According to his initiative, party lists should be limited to 150 elected deputies.
