TRANSNATIONAL RADICAL PARTY: THE DECISION ON THE EXPULSION HAS BEEN POSTPONED
Brussels, August 2, 2000. On 27 July 2000, the Committee on non-governmental organisations met to consider the response of the Transnational Radical Party (TRP), (a summary can be found at www.radicalparty.org). After an intense debate and some informal consultations, which also took into consideration the procedural points made by the TRP, a letter was drafted by the Committee to request a comprehensive response to the Russian accusations that have made the Committee recommend a 3-year suspension for TRP to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
As a consequence of this new request, the ECOSOC was not able on July 28 to adopt the report of the Committee's 2000 session. The TRP will now have to submit its 3rd response by 16 September 2000 in order for the Committee to look into it during the 3rd week of the same month and then finalise the report of its works and present a recommendation to the ECOSOC for its final adoption on 18 October 2000.
TRP mobilisation to retain its consultative status and continue to provide a tribune for dissidents, victims intellectuals is still going on. An international petition against its suspension has been endorsed by hundreds of individuals, among whom representative of different groups, organisations and parliamentarians. The text of the appeal and the list of signatories can be retrieved at www.radicalaprty.org
