THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, GUINEA BISSAU AND THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION SIGN THE TREATY OF THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT BRINGING TO 112 THE NUMBER OF STATES THAT HAVE SIGNED THE CONVENTION. 19 HAVE RATIFIED.

Transnational Radical Party welcomes the signature by the Democratic Republic of Congo and Guinea Bissau of the ICC Rome Statute and, most importantly, of the Russian Federation, the 3rd permanent member of the Security Council that did so. The TRP stresses the importance of the widest possible commitment to the swift entry into force of the permanent Court. Signing the Convention is a strong political signal in support of a new and effective system of international criminal justice.
What endorsed by the 160 Heads of States at the Millennium Assembly is a very important declaration (http://www.un.org/millennium/declaration/a55L2.htm) for the future of mankind, TRP salutes the support of the prompt coming into being of the first international institution capable of bringing to justice international war criminals, and calls on all governments that have signed the Convention to immediately initiate all the necessary procedures to ratify and prepare the necessary implementing legislation to end impunity once and for all.
The ICC will entry into operation when 60 countries have ratified the Rome Statute.
