27 September 2000Contrary to the prescribed election procedure, police seized election
materials in two towns in Vojvodina, the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC)
has learned.
On September 27, the complete election materials were taken from the
offfice of the local election commission in the town hall at Backa
Topola. The day before, 26 September, police took all the reports on
election returns and ballot slips collected from some 50 polling
stations from the election commission office in Mali Idjos.
Laszlo Istvan, member of the election commission in Backa Topola, told
the HLC that when he asked the uniformed police officers to explain
their action, they responded that they were taking the materials ôto the
Federal Election Commission in Subotica for verification.ö
