Convicted according to the Art.328.1 of the Russian Criminal Code

August 30, 2000 I was convicted by the Porkhov District Court according to the Art. 328.1 of the Russian Criminal Code to one year of imprisonment in the conditions of isolation. Despite my pacifist convictions and statements that all my demands are in the legal framework, that is, the demand to perform the civilian service instead of the military one according to the Art. 59.3 of the Constituion of the Russian Federation. Despite the reference to the decree of the Constitutional Court of 15 May, 1996, the Court qualified my activities according to the Art. 328.1. On September 6, I made a cassation complaint to the Pskov Regional Court with a petition to repeal the sentence and to remit the case for further examination. I count on the verdict of "not guilty", I am going to plead my cause by myself, since I have not means to hire a paid defence counsel, and the free defence counsel E.G.Semenov who was delivered to me in Porkhov, demonstrated complete illiteracy and didn't do anything to plead my cause; he did

n't consult me about my rights which led to such a serious sentence. Now I'm in the "Investigatory isolation ward N 2" in the city Velikiye Luki waiting for the court proceedings. I ask to take my letter into consideration.
