DECLARATION OF NIKOLAY KHRAMOV, RUSSIAN COORDINATOR OF THE RADICAL PARTY

The radio "Ekho Moskvy" informed that the possibility of legalization of poligame families will be discussed tomorrow at the meeting of the State Duma, on the initiative of Vladimir Zhirinovsky. While I have nothing against the legalization of polygame matrimonies between the people who desire to join in such matrimony of their own free will (and not only in the Moslem regions of Russia), I have to note that it's high time for Russian political figures and legislators to think of civil rights of millions of Russian citizens of non-traditional sexual orientation and to put an end to a hypocritical and repressive traditionalist culture, recognizing in legislative order - following the most progressive European countries - the right of homosexual couples to register their matrimonial union in the bodies of registration of civil status, with all ensuing consequences of civil and legal nature. For that, it's necessary to introduce amendments to the Articles 1 and 12 of the Family Code, replacing the words "man an

d woman" by "citizens".
