ANTICLERICALISM / CLONING: THE SOVIET ORTHODOX CHURCH HAS JOINED AT LAST THE CRUSADE OF EUROPEAN CLERICALS AGAINST THE FREEDOM OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
The adoption of the law authorizing the cloning will become a challenge to the Christian conscience. That was the comment of the metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kirill upon today's hearing at the House of Lords of the British parliament. He emphasized that the Church's attitude towards human cloning is definitely negative. The metropolitan is sure that "the attempts of people to put themselves at the place of God, voluntarily changing and "improving" His creature, can bring new burden and suffering to the humanity".

Statement of Nikolay Khramov, Russian coordinator of the Radical Party:
"The Soviet Orthodox Church has joined at last the crusade of European clericals against the freedom of scientific research. We congratulate Kirill, metropolitan of Smolensk, Kaliningrad, Tobacco, Vodka and Chicken Drumsticks, and all the Moscow Patriarchy in his person. In the case with cloning as well as with family planning, our home clericals are highly consistent: the "Christian conscience" is more dear to them than concrete thousands of lives of concrete people with the Parkinson disease to whom the researches on cloning of human embryonic cells give a chance of salvation".
