The UN Security Council must clarify its position in respect of prospects of the activities of the International Tribunal for former Yugoslavia.

This was the declaration of Russian plenipotentiary at the UN Sergey Lavrov. He believes that the General Secretary of the United Nations Kofi Annan must as soon as possible communicate to the members of the Security Council his proposals concerning the term of expiry of the provisional jurisdiction of the Tribunal. According to Lavrov, Russia is deeply concerned about distortions in the work of this institute. The plenipotentiary mentioned its politicization and prejudice in respect of the Serbs. Lavrov particularly criticized the Prosecutor of the Haage Tribunal Carla del Ponte.
