PRESS RELEASE
Moscow, March 16, 2001
Today in the parliamentary center of the Council of the Federation in Novy Arbat, the parliamentary hearings on the draft of the federal law "On alternative civilian service" introduced by the deputy July Rybakov (Union of the RightForces) were organized by the Committee for legislation of the State Duma.
The delegation of the radicals took part in the parliamentary hearings. The delegation consisted of Valentina Melnikova (the secretary of the Union of committees of soldier's mothers of Russia), Anna Zaytseva (the treasurer of the ARA), Andrey Rodionov (member of the secretariat of the ARA) and Alyona Asayeva (member of the secretariat of the ARA).
The point of view of the radicals who for many years have fought for the right for conscientious objection, concerning the future law on the alternative civilian service (ACS) is that the ACS which is a compromise, provisional decision on the path to the full abolition of conscription slavery, should have exceptionally civil and not discriminating character.
