ITALY - With the beginning of the summer holidays there are more anti drug controls on the part of the Excise Police, to limit the illegal market that follows tourism. This is what is already happening in the harbours and airports of Sardinia, and at the Bologna airport which is a major travel link towards the Adriatic coast summer resorts.
ITALY - Alessandro Margara, former director of the Italian Jail Administration, said in an interview for Radio Radicale: "If the answer to the drug problem, which is a large social phenomenon, is only that of hard and repressive legislation, we will continue to have overpopulated jails".

Criticism expressed by the WHO regarding the Swiss project of controlled distribution of heroin was rebutted by Martin Killias, member of the team behind the project.
He says that the whole thing has been judged a prohibitionist slant, and this explains why so much data on achieved crime reduction has been simply disregarded.
Furthermore, there have been diverging opinions within the WHO itself.
