REUTER 14/3/1995
MADRID Spain has decided to reimpose visa requirements on Canadian tourists after their country's seizure of a Spanish trawler last week, a foreign ministry official said on Tuesday.
"We have decided to impose this," the official said. "But we still have to see how we can go about it." The necessary legal measures would take at least three or four days, he added.
Foreign Minister Javier Solana said on Monday that reimposing visas for Canadian tourists was a possible way Madrid could hit back in its dispute with Ottawa over North Atlantic fish stocks.
He also said Spain could break diplomatic relations with Canada.
