CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION IN SOVIET UNION: ALEXANDER PRONOZIN REFUSE MILITAR SERVICE. A "CRIMINAL CASE".
By Alexander Pronozin

In the august of 1988 I declared my refusal to serve in the soviet military forces on grounds of conscience. At that time I did not receive any oficial answer though in my statement was said that I was ready to perform alternative civil service. Recently I have known that that procecutor's office of the Soviet district of Moscow opened criminal case for my objection from military service. Formally the case No 65707 was opened for "evasion from conscription to military service in ranks of the Soviet Army".

In connection with this I repeatedely declare my categorical

objection from military service in the soviet army. My objection is based on pacifist and politicsl grounds. As an active participant of Moovement for Trust between East and West, I am a firm opponent of using violent methods for aceiving any purposes whatever just and human they are seemed. Only nonviolent social defence can be effective protection both from external agression and internal dictatorship and lead to acheiving firm cocial peace.

What concerns the soviet army, I disgust it not only as an instrument of violence, but also as main sapport of the regime of so called "real socialism". This regime, deeply antidemocratical in its essense, commited endless lines ov awfull crimes against its nation and also against all human beings. In my opinion this regime in its modern condition has not right to existanse at all, and that's why I don't have any relation to its defence by any methods whatever they are.

I would like to mark that I am ready to perform alternative civil service if it is out of military any military departments and if it is not considered officially as a punishment for my objection.

I know that for my objection I can be emprisoned on term up to 3 years, though I am ready to be percecuted and share the fate of many other young people for their objection from military service on grounds of conscience.

At last time I sistimatically received calls to interrogations to the percecutor's office and several times was exposed to attempts to take me there by force. In connection with this I declare that I will never come volontary to mylitia or to procecutor's office. I deliberately have chosen this position of noncolaboration as an individual act of civil disobedience as I don't want to help soviet punitive organs in fulfilling their repressive functions.

Alexander Pronozin.
