Every day increases the number of conscientious objectors in the Soviet Union. This recently started process continues to develop though the law which allows to imprison objectors on the term up to 5 years was not abolished and still now people are put in prison for their objection on whatever grounds it is based. Now the working comission for problems of conscientious objection in the Soviet Union, which was formed by activists of the Radical party, possess's information about 43 prisoners of peace - persons who were percecuted for their refusal to perform military servise or deserted from place of service on grounds of conscious and also for pacifist activity. Most of these people are Whitnesses of Jehova who motivate their objection by religious reasons. But the problem is that the greater part of prisoners are unknown for society as authorities conceal this information.
According oficial information 6.000 people refuse to care military service all over the Soviet Union. Especially widely this process is going on the rim of the soviet impire - at that "soviet socialist republiks" where moovements for national independence have strong positions: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Azerbajdzhan. There young people refuse to serve in the soviet army because they count it as army of the contry which ockupated their motherland. For example now in the Moscow office of the Radical party we have 6 kilograms of military documents of Georgians who refused to serve in the soviet okkupation army.
Recently Fond of support of peace prisoners was established, which purpouse is to help prisoners in camps and their relatives who with imprisonment of objector loose very often the person who can earn money for their living.
Those who want to contribute to this Fond or are interested in receiving the List of soviet prisoners of peace can communicate with the Moscow office of the Radical party.
