On the 7-th of october in the center of Moscow in front of the Central Headquaters of the Minestry of Defence a manifestation for urgent introducing of alternative civil service in the USSR took place. Formal organizers of the manifestation - all activists of the RP: Alexandr Kalinin (deputy of the Moscow Soviet), Nikolaj Khramov and Alexander Pronozin according law had applied to local Soviet of Kievskij district for official registration of the action. Executive committee of the Soviet permitted the manifistation but in an other place - forest at rim of Moscow. Issuring a Statement of protest the organizers decided not to change place because the refusal of authorities was not motivated.
Alomoust 1.000 people were gathered at this action by several thousands of leaflets that had been spread over Moscow beforehand. The manifistation was opened by Alexander Kalinin who explaned importance and necessety of alternative civil service. The second speeker was Alexander Pronozin. He attracted attention to the situation in the Soviet Union when many people still did not know what did it mean - alternative civil service, and what we could expect in connection in this. Then Pronozin said about the criminal case for his conscientious objection. He protested that hundreds of youn people were imprisoned for conscientious objection but nowbody was going to arrest him. He demanded to arrest him immediately at bring to procurator's office. Also speeked leeders of some political organizations: Marija Kirbasova - Committee of Solodier's Mothers, Andrej Isaev - Konfederation of Anarcho-Sindicalists and others. The moderator of the manifistation was Nikolaj Khramov.
The manifestation was organized by the Radica Party, Committee of Soldier's Mothers and the Union of Anarcho-Sindicalists. The All-union society "Memorial" was mentioned in the leaflet as an organizer of the manifestation but at the last moment it refused from participance in it and issured a Statement of protest in which was written that "Memorial" supported the recomendation of the Moscow Soviet not to organize public actions at that days but to gather potatoes at country fields helping to the Soviet agriculture. This Statement was published at "Moskovskaja Pravda" newspaper.
At the same day information about the manifestation was broadcasted by the central radio and the central television in the most important official daily newsprogram "Vremja" and by local Moscow television. At the next day Moscow television devoted to the manifestation 3 minutes of its time. Photos of the manifestation were published at newspapers "Komsomolskaja Pravda" - 22.000.000 copies, "Moskovskaja Pravda", "Sobesednik". A big article appeared in the main Soviet military newspaper "Krasnaja Zvezda" (The Red Star) - 2.000.000 copies, the author of which critisized organizers of the manifestation for "anti-army propaganda", brainwashing of draftees and speculation on senses of mothers whoes childred parished in army.
