President George Bush will visit Czechoslovakia on November 17th, just a year later the beginning of the big change in this country. Waiting for that big event, the members of Transnational Radical Party living in Czechoslovakia have sent today the following open letter to the White House, through the American embassy in Prague:
»Dear President Bush,
We permit to tell You thanks for you visit: that's a fully adequate event in the occasion of the first "birthday" of the new democracy in Czechoslovakia. Because You are the President of one of the best and fulliest democracy in the whole world, thanks to its Constitution, its laws, its rules -democracy is first of all laws and rules.
We sincerely look at the American democracy like at a shining example of democracy, an example to extend, to "export". And it's just because of our deep taking in care American democracy that we permit to remember to You that while in several States of USA the capital punishment is still provided in the juridical system, and human lifes are cut several times because of that, Czechoslovak Parliament decided last May to abolish death penalty like the most important reform to bring to the Penal Code.
As You know it was because of our strong nonviolent campaign in the whole Europe, and mostly because of the strongest voice of President Havel.
Mr. President Bush, You are coming in a country that has decided this year to delete the death penalty because of considering it as a tipic remainder of the former totalitarian regime: it has a deep meaning.
Please, Mr President, let's say that You should not to forget it coming here, in the interest of democracy, in the interest of the full credibility of your great democratic America.
Thank You.
