(MOSCOW, JANUARY 17). - "Izvestiya" newspaper published today the statistic about the capital punishments in the Soviet Union which was secret till now.

According information given out by Ministry of Justice of USSR, in 1985 - 770, in 1987 - 344, in 1989 - 276 people were executed. Number of shooting in 1990 is not published yet. However as Vladimir Gubarev, assistant of minister, says, the number of executions in 1990 is higher than in 1989.
