SOVIET UNION: "ARRESTS FOR NON-VIOLENT ACTIONS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH PRINCIPLES OF DEMOCRACY AND STATE OF LAW". APPEAL BY NIKOLAJ KHRAMOV, ALEKSANDR PRONOZIN AND KIRILL POPOV TO THE MAIN PUBLIC PROSECUTOR OF KAZAKHSTAN.

(Moscow, February 11). - Three Soviet Radicals leaving in Moscow - Nikolaj Khramov, Aleksandr Pronozin and Kirill Popov - sent a telegram to the main public prosecutor of Kazakh Republic protesting against detainment of Radical activist Bakythan Abirov in Alma-Ata this morning:

"We strongly protest against detainment of Bakythan Abirov, member of Radical Party, collecting signatures under Radical petitions in Alma-Ata at February 11, 1991. We attract your attention to the fact that the case of Mr. Abirov is already second arrest of a Radical activist in Kazakhstan in February. We are convicted that arrests for non-violent actions are not compatible with principles of democracy and state of low, which are declared by Kazakhstan's government. Such actions can not increase more trust to Kazakhstan outside and more respect to its government inside of the republic. We ask about your intervention to restore legality and low in the case of Bakythan Abirov."
