USSR: 5 ROCK MUSICIANS OF THE FIRST SOVIET GAY GROUP JOINED THE RADICAL PARTY OF 1991

Moscow, March 1, 1991 - Full staff of Roshal Mod rock group (Gennadij Klachkov, Sergej Roshal, Felix Flejshlih, Evgenij Pugatov, Nadezhda Klachkova) joined the Radical Party. Roshal Mod is a recently formed band composed of musicians from the most popular Soviet rock and pop groups. They were the first who declared themselves a gay-group openly. It immediately entailed a series of articles in Soviet official newspapers. The last of them was in Moscovskij Komsomolec newspaper (circulation 1.5 million copies) which was written in rude, insulting style.

STATEMENT OF ROSHAL MODE ROCK GROUP

One can consider Roshal Mod rather unusual event in musical business in the USSR because of the participants are ready to strive openly for human rights. We all feel that we belong to the Society of free people who do not recognize state borders. All the program of the Radical Party is equal to our political convictions. We are the first gay group in the USSR rising its voice for human rights, and for rights for sexual minorities in particular. So we hope that we shall contribute by our music in the cause of the Radical Party. And thanks God, this contribution will give valuable results.
