(Moscow, May 21, 1991) - Today Valerija Novodvorskaja, founding member of the Democratic Union who joined recently the Radical Party, was put into KGB prison Lefortovo in Moscow.
Novodvorskaja is accused of call to violent overthrow of constitutional regime in the country (Art. No 70 Russian criminal code), number of she's criminal case is #145. It can mean for she some years of prison. Reason for accusation was so called "Letter of 12 members of the Democratic Union" which was written in January 1991 after the tragically events in Vilnius. The authors of this appeal called the people to overthrow the totalitarian regime by force. Speaking about Mikhail Gorbachev Novodvorskaja and she's co-authors compared him with Hitler, Stalin, Somosa and Ciaosescu.
However joining in two months after the publishing of the "Letter of 12" the non-violent, ghandian party which is the Radical Party, Novodvorskaja said that she makes it also to underline the fact that she stay still on the non-violent positions.
Valerija Novodvorskaja was put into Lefortovo just at the day of releasing after 10 days of imprisonment for demonstration against Soviet army's actions in Armenian villages at the beginning of May.
Another one from 12 - Mihail Danilin - is already in Lefortovo prison since last week.
