(Moscow, 1 June, 1991) - In the interview given by Otto Habsburg, European MP and President of Pan-European Union, to German journalist Meinrad von Au especially for Moscow daily "Nezavisimaja Gazeta" and published today, answering on the question about the future co-existing of Soviet nations he told in particularly:
"It's necessary to recognize finally right of self-determination for nations. <...> We must see the things objective. In the era of general decolonization Soviet Union is the last big colonialist state in the world. The only justice policy in this situation can be the policy like that one which was realized by De Gaulle in former French Union. <...> Of course it can be realized only in conditions of freedom.
I think also, that term 'Soviet Union' belongs not to the future. Future is Europe together with European nations of the USSR in the framework of European Community. Russian nation can have here a big role because Russians are Europeans. We never forget it."
