COUP D'ETAT IN USSR: APPEAL OF RADICALS LIVING AND WORKING IN KIEV

Kiev, 20 August, 1991

To the European Parliament;

to the Italian Parliament;

to all European citizens

At 19 of August 1991 in the Soviet Union the military and Communist coup d'etat was made. President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev was violently removed from power. His current place and fate are unknown.

The junta, including chief of KGB Kriuchkov, minister of defence Yazov, minister of Interior Pugo, vice president Yanayev, prime minister Pavlov, declared about taking all full-power and introducing the extra-ordinary situation in the country. The basic political rights and freedoms are stopped.

It is important, that this coup d'etat was undertaken one day earlier before the subscribing of new Union Treaty, which had a chance to pacificate very difficult relations between republics and central bodies. Very strong resistance to this positive process from side of old central structures and orthodox Communist leaders became one of the real reasons of the military putsch.

We, members of the Transnational Radical Party living and working in Kiev, intend to defend strongly low and democracy in our country, together with many men and women of Russia, Ukraine and other states which are now the parts of the Soviet Union.

We appeal to the European and Italian deputies, to all European citizens to defend democracy and low in the USSR.

Please, stop all kinds of political and economical relations with military junta in Moscow.

Demand restoration of low, Constitution and democracy in Soviet Union, releasing president Mikhail Gorbachev.

The criminals who took power yesterday are not only killers of our new born democracy: they are deadly dangerous for the whole world.

Please, help us!
