Many Ukrainian newspapers informed their readers about demonstration against death penalty, which was organized by Radical Party in front of president's residence at April 22.
April 21, the day before the action, VECHERNIJ KIEV, a million copy evening newspaper, published the short information of following content: "At Wednesday, April 22 Radical Party organizes a common action for the abolishing of death penalty in the countries of former USSR. In Kiev demonstration will take place near the residence of Ukrainian president on Bankovska street, 11."
On the next day after the demonstration KIEVSKA PRAVDA published the short article by Natalja Vasiljuk. The text of the article is below:
"It's already second spring action of the Transnational Radical Party. This one, like the last one, was organized under slogan of excluding death penalty from Ukrainian legislation.
Yesterday at 5 pm activists of Radical Party went to the streets of the capitals of the states of former Soviet Union, in order to deliver to the chiefs of their states the appeals to exclude death penalty from national legislations and to abolish all the death sentences passed till now.
It's possible to see, that Radicals don't lose the optimism, in spite of absence of any answer to the last action and letter, addressed to Ukrainian president and delivered to his administration. However they have an important support. Their signatures under appeal to abolish death penalty gave Ukrainian people's deputies Larisa Skorik, Vladimir Javorivskij, Pavlo Movchan, Ivan Drach, Dmitro Pavlychko and others."
At least two newspapers - "PRAVDA UKRAINY" (all-Ukrainian daily in Russian language) at April 24 and "HRESCATYK" (popular Kiev daily) at April 25 published following material by correspondent of UKRINFORM news agency:
"Group of representatives of the Radical Party made at April 22 the picket in front of president's building demanding to abolish death penalty. It was not a mass manifestation. Probably, first of all because of small number of members of the Radical Party with headquarters in Rome, who are about four thousand in the whole world. However, some passers-by joined the action.
It's already second demonstration during the last month. But till now the authorities gave no reaction neither to the first, nor to the second one.
This action, like the last one, is organized in the framework of the world parliamentarian campaign for abolishing death penalty on the Earth till 2000. According Radicals' words, for its abolishing in former USSR expressed more than 600 deputies and government officials in the whole world, who putted their signatures under the petition initiated by Radical Party together with many Nobel prizers, famous personalities of science, culture and art. In Ukraine their signatures under the appeal to finish with death penalty gave well known in the republic persons: people's deputies Larisa Skorik, Vladimir Javorivskij, Pavlo Movchan, Ivan Drach, Dmitro Pavlychko and others."
The short information about Radical action published also "Kyjivski Noviny" (News From Kiev) weekly in its number 7 (April 1992).
UKRAINIAN RADIO TWO transmitted on April 23 the information about the demonstration against death death penalty too.
UKRAINIAN TV invited Radical activists in Kiev to take part at one-hour TV program in May which will be dedicated especially to the problem of death penalty.
