GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MOLDOVIAN RADICALS IN CHISINAU

(Chisinau, May 29, 1993) - The general public assembly of Radical Party has taken place on Saturday, May 29 in the Republican Culture Center in Chisinau, Moldovian capital.

In the reunion have taken part Nikolaj Hramov, member of General Council of the Radical Party; Vladimir Ivanov, Radical activist from Kiev coordinating the RP's activity in Moldova; Valeriu Matei, Ilia Trombitchi, Alecu Renita, Petru Munteanu - Radical members and deputies of Moldovian parliament; Stefan Uritu, president of Moldovian Helsinki Commitee and Radical member; Zoia Golban, director of Nezavisimaja Moldova newspaper and others.

Political duscussion on the assembly has very intensive character. The basic subject debated while manifestation was Radical campaign against death penalty and initiative for excluding the article about death penalty from the draft of new Moldovian constitution. Petru Munteanu, vice chairman of the constitutional commission of parliament spoke about what was already done in the framework of this Radical initiative.

Also the situation in Transnistria was debated, in particularly - the fate of five political prisoners (Ilie Ilascu who is also member of the Radical member, Andrei Ivantoc, Alexandru Lesco, Tudor Petrov-Pop, Petru Godiac and Valeriu Garbuz), who are now under trial in Tiraspol on accusation in the activity against self-declared and not recognized "Republic of Transnistria". The assembly has adopted the appeal to the authorities of Tiraspol to give away these prisoners to the legal bodies of the Republic of Moldova.

19 new members have join Radical Party during the assembly.
