(Kiev, November 16) - Press conference of the Transnational Radical Party dedicated to the tomorrow's inauguration of the International Ad Hoc Tribunal on war crimes committed in ex-Yugoslavia, has taken place at 1 PM in House of Cinema, simultaneously with same press conferences in many European cities.
The speakers were: Nikolaj Khramov, member of General Council of the Radical Party; Markijan Chuchuk, deputy of Ukrainian parliament and Radical member; Vladimir Ivanov, member of the General Council of the RP.
Nikolaj Khramov has informed journalists about the reasons which brought Radical Party to the decision to initiate a worldwide campaign for the International criminal Court on war crimes, about the development of this Radical campaign since April this year and about result of the meeting on November 2 between UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali and delegation of subscribers of the Radical appeal to the United Nations. He spoke also about the further difficulties on the way to the beginning of the effective work of the Tribunal. Khramov has underlined the necessety of the creation of a permanent UN tribunal on war crimes, for instance in the context of mass violations of international humanitarian law and "ethnic cleaning" in Abkhazia (Republic of Georgia).
Markijan Chuchuk has accented the judicial aspects of the problem and informed about activity in Ukrainian parliament, where 42 deputies of absolutely different parts of political spectrum have subscribed the International Appeal to the UN.
Vladimir Ivanov has underlined the importance for Ukrainian politicians to participate in the transnational political actions and initiatives like that one on the war crimes tribunal. He also has payed attention of the press to the often visits of Ukrainian politicians to Belgrade. It has to be especially interresting in the context of soon elections in our coutry, he sayed.
Among the mass media presented on the press conference were: Radio Liberty, three main Ukrainian news agencies - UNIAN, UNIAR and UKRINFORM, INTELNEWS agency (working in English language), "Visti z Ukrainy" weekly newspaper, UNIAN TV, TV UTAR.
