(Dnepropetrovsk, January 15) - On 15th January in Dnepropetrovsk - one of the biggest Ukrainian cities - a public assembly of the Radical Party has taken place as first time. About 40 persons participated in the assembly, the main part among whom were activists of different political and environmentalist organizations, esperantists, and also journalists of regional and all-Ukrainian newspapers and Radio Liberty.
The basic subject discussed on the assembly was Radical Party's "Lines of Political Initiatives" (intervention of Vladimir Ivanov) and enrollment campaign for 1994 (intervention of Elena Vorotnikova). The known Ukrainian human rights activist Gennadij Saharov, who joined Radical Party as first time, spoke about necessity to reform Ukrainian legislation concerning human rights, first of all - to exclude death penalty, and also to precise the expressions which prohibit all kinds of tortures. Artur Fredekind, activist of the People's Movement of Ukraine (who also joined Radical Party during the assembly), speaking about the problem of death penalty in Moldova, has payt a special attention to the illegal sentences (including one death sentence) carried out in Tiraspol on so called "Ilascu Case".
12 persons joined the party for 1994, a half of them - journalists.
