SUBMITTED IN PARIS THE 123 ADHESIONS COLLECTED BY THE RADICAL PARTY IN SUPPORT OF THE CANDIDACY OF THE CHINESE DISSIDENT WEJ JINGSHENG FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 1996.

Brussels, 24 January 1996. A Radical Party delegation composed of the general secretary, Olivier Dupuis and Paolo Atzori, has delivered to Marie Holsman, president of "Chinese House of democracy", in Paris, the 123 adhesions of European and national parliamentarians and university faculty that the Radical Party has collected in support of the candidacy of Wej Jingsheng for the Nobel Peace Prize 1996.

In the next few days, the adhesions, together with those collected by the organizations that participated in the initiatives, will be deposited in Stockholm for the formal beginning of the procedure for the candidacy.

Wej is currently in jail charged with "grave subversive acts against the Chinese government", however only a massive intervention of information means, of democratic governments, of national institutions will be able to save the dissident of the communist regime of Peking from an almost certain civil and political death if not also a physical one. During these years, Wej has fought for the democratic renewal of the Chinese institutions and to start, in China, a democratic movement for the respect of civil rights.

Among the adhesions collected by the Radical Party, we remember those of José Maria Gil Robles, vice-president of the European Parliament, Abel Matutes Juan, president of the Foreign Commission of the EP, of Fernando Savater, writer and university professor and of numerous deputies of the European, Polish, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Rumanian, Croatian, Italian, Czech, and Austrian Parliament.
