Rome, May 20, 1996. Mr Pannella's statement: let's immediatly start to plan and operatively program the great worldwide nonviolent mobilization for the freedom of Tibet and democracy in China.
The Dalai Lama has today received at the Italian Chamber of Representatives a Radical Party delegation led by the General Secretary Olivier Dupuis, MEP, the Treasurer Danilo Quinto, and Mr Marco Pannella. The Dalai Lama warmly thanked the Radical Party for its long and steadfast commitment for the Tibetan cause and its nonviolent belief in such commitment, a belief culminated on the last March 10th in the great Brussels' demonstration.
The worldwide Satyagraha for the freedom of Tibet and Democracy in China was the main issue debated during the meeting between Mr Pannella and the Dalai lama. The prospect of a Satyagraha was already tackled during their previous meetings, and today the Dalai Lama and Mr Pannella have agreed to open the planning and operational stage of the great worldwide nonviolent mobilization of truth assertion (in Sanskrit, Satyagraha means the strenght of the truth), with collective and individual nonviolent actions in the framework of a process leading, for 1998, to a full spread out of nonviolence in all its forms. Marco Pannella has then proposed to the Dalai Lama to open, starting from the upcoming weeks, a common and concrete planning work in view of 1998.
