A MOTION CONCERNING THE TIBETAN TRAGEDY TABLED AT THE CHAMBER OF REPRESENTATIVES PROMOTED BY THE RADICAL PARTY AND SUBSCRIBED BY MEMBERS OF SEVERAL PARLIAMENTARY GROUPS. THE COMMITMENT TO APPROVING THE DOCUMENT.
Rome, July 24, 1996. A motion concerning the tibetan situation has been tabled at the Italian Chamber of Representatives. Tibet, occupied by the Peoples Republic of China since 1949, is undergoing an extremely harsh repression which is challenging the very survival of the tibetan people.
This motion was proposed by the Radical Party, transnational and transparty, and was initially supported by the following MPs: Giovanna MELANDRI (PDS), Mirko TREMAGLIA (AN), Enrico Paolo NAN (FI), Lino DE BENETTI (GREEN), Rosa Russo JERVOLINO (PPI), Luciano CAVERI (Mixt-UV), Flavio RODEGHIERO (LEAGUE). Many other colleagues are joining the initiative.
The Radical Party wishes to thank all those MPs that, once more, have decided to engage themselves in an institutional initiative which forms part of a broad campaign that the Radical Party is promoting for the freedom for Tibet together with the Tibetan Government in exile and the Tibet Support Groups in several different countries.
The Radical Party had already proposed a Motion about Tibet last year (first to sign being Lorenzo STRIK LIEVERS) but which had not been discussed during the last legislature. It is now necessary before september 1996 to act and fight in order to get the resolution be adopted.
