Wei Jingsheng/Radical Party: press release

JUST RELEASED WEI JINGSHENG MEETS THE RADICAL PARTY

THE STRUGGLE FOR DEMOCRACY IN CHINA TO BE RELAUNCHED

DECLARATION OF OLIVIER DUPUIS, SECRETARY OF THE RADICAL PARTY AND MEMBER OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

New York, 2 December 1997. Just released, Wei Jingsheng, the biggest exponent of the democratic opposition in China, does not intend to have a rest. He is ready to relaunch on the world level the struggle that has seen him engaged for 20 years inside and outside the laogai of the People's Republic of China.

Now he wants to relaunch the campaign of the Human Rights in China and the Transnational Radical Party for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize 1998 to Wei Jingsheng and Wang Dan. After this will follow a European "tour" aiming to engage the parliaments, the public opinion and requesting that the United Nations Commission on Human Rights expresses itself on continuous and persistent violations of human rights in China.

Declaration of Olivier Dupuis

"It is Wei Jingsheng, more than ever determined to continue the struggle for the democracy in China and very curious to know the radicals, whom we have met, together with Marino Busdachin and Marco Cappato, yesterday evening. A meeting marked with much warmth and also with recognition for what the radical militants have done in these years for his release and for the respect of human rights in China. First meeting that allows to hope about the possibilities of relaunching with strength the initiatives for the reforms and the democracy in China."
