UN: CUBAN DIPLOMATS THREATEN TRP, ASKING ITS EXPULSION
Geneva, April 4, 1998. Yesterday, at the UN Commission on Human Rights, the Transnational Radical Party delivered a statement on the violation of human rights in Cuba. The document, while stating that in Cuban prisons there are some members of the Radical Party, enumerated some of the most serious and evident violations of human rights perpetrated in Cuba, a country where the regime violates also domestic law.
TRP statement quoted verbatim the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on Cuba, who was forbidden by Castro to visit the island.
The Cuban Mission to the UN has then asked the chairman to right to reply, the Cuban diplomat, without challenging a single paragraph of the statement, has attacked TRP representatives saying: "We know who is behind this organization that wants to be called Transnational Radical Party. We know who their are and we will take appropriate action at the Committee on NGOs so that these episodes will not happen again". Cuba will ask the UN to withdraw the Consultative Status granted in 1995 to TRP.
Cuban diplomats defamed TRP representatives saying that they are paid by the Cuban Mafia of Miami, the Sicilian Mafia and by various secret services.
