THE TRANSNATIONAL RADICAL PARTY IN ITS STATEMENT ON KOSOVA SUBMITTED TO THE UN COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS URGED THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY AND THE UNITED NATIONS TO PLAY STRONGER ROLE IN THIS ISSUE SUGGESTING CONCRETE STEPS.
Geneva-New York, 16 April 1998. The Transnational Radical Party, having the general consultative status with ECOSOC, submitted yesterday in the evening meeting of the 54th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights its statetement about the situation in Kosova. Afrim Gjonbalaj from the TRP briefly described the critical situation in this region and pointed out the neccessity for the international community to react in a more adequate and stronger way than it did so far, including the arms embargo against Yugoslavia, which already has enough arms for some next years.
The TRP emphasised that the massacres in Kosova must be immediately investigated and the responsible persons judged according to the international law for crimes against humanity. The TRP requested the UN Commission to urge the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to release all its political prisoners, starting with Mr. Ukshin Hoti; and also supported the latest demands from Albanian side that the negotiations have to include the federal authorities of Yugoslavia and the international mediator. The TRP stressed that the demilitarization of Kosova without preconditions is a fundamental need for reaching a peaceful solution in the whole region.
During the morning meeting of the Commission, the delegation of the Transnational Radical met Mr. Paskal Milo, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Albania, after he delivered his official statement to the Commission, in which he also strongly urged the United Nations to make all the efforts to solve the Kosova problem. As a former member of the TRP, Mr. Milo understood and appreciated its approach and policy and expressed his hope for the further cooperation with the TRP.
