New York, May 2, 1998. After having participated in the London Decriminalization March, radical militants will be present in Manhattan for the Marijuana March of May 2, 1998.

The time has come to denounce the crime against humanity also known as prohibitionism on drugs. Prohibitionism is inherently flowed, and it has made drugs dangerous precisely because they are illegal, not vice-versa. Marijuana prohibition is particularly insane, because of the widespread use and the harmlessness of the substance, compared to alcohol and tobacco. For these reasons we will take part to the demonstration of tomorrow

TRP leader Marco Pannella, who since 1970s has been involved in pro-legalization issues, together with other 25 radical activists, recently distributed hashish for free in Rome as an act of civil disobedience against the Italian prohibitionist legislation on drugs.

TRP members at the European Parliament have worked on a report of alternatives to current drug laws in the European Union. TRP is also an organization affiliated to the United Nations and has campaigned for a revision of the international Conventions on Narcotics.
