INTERNET: THE WEB PAGE OF THE TRANSNATIONAL RADICAL PARTY WILL TRANSMIT WORLDWIDE THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE UNITED NATIONS DIPLOMATIC CONFERENCE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT
Rome, June 4, 1998. From June 15 to 17 July 1998, anybody will be able to enter the Plenary Session of the FAO in Rome through the Internet (http://www.radicalparty.org/icc/icc.html) and follow in real time the proceedings of the Diplomatic Conference that will create a permanent International Criminal Court, virtually sitting side-by-side with heads of state, ministers and diplomatic representatives of all countries of the world.
Fifty years from the Nuremberg and Tokyo Military Tribunals, the international community is now at the final stages of negotiation for the establishment of an International Criminal Court. A Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries representing all countries of the world will meet in Rome to finalise the text of the Statute of the future Court. If the Diplomatic Conference reaches its goal, the Pol Pots or Karazdics of the future will have to watch their step.
The new international jurisdiction will end the cycle of impunity and violence that the worse international criminals have enjoyed until now.
Olivier Dupuis, member of the European Parliament and Secretary of the Transnational Radical Party commented "The participation of all the citizens to the Diplomatic Conference, via the Internet, will be essential to mobilise international public opinion in support of a fair, independent and effective International Criminal Court.
The project was realised in partnership with "No Peace Without Justice" and Radio Radicale.
