EP-KOSOVO-SAKHAROV PRIZE: THE EUROPEAN RADICAL ALLIANCE GROUP AND OTHER MEPs HAVE NOMINATED PROFESSOR UKSHIN HOTI OF KOSOVO, NOMINATED TO THE 1999 SAKAROV PRIZE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT.
Strasbourg, 16 September 1998. The ERA Group has presented the nomination of Ukshin Hoti for the 1999 Sakharov Prize. Jailed since 1994 by the Belgrade regime for opinion crimes.
For his commitment in favor a political solution to the Kosovo situation and for the establishment of democracy in the Balkans; Ukshin Hoti is a long time victim of the Belgrade persecutions.
Declaration by Olivier Dupuis, MEP, Secretary of the Radical Party:
"With the candidature of Ukshin Hoti to the 1999 Sakharov Prize of the EP, we want to show our support to a man, who has always affirmed that the only possible solution to the Kosovo question is a political one, and that is intrinsically linked to democracy and the rule of law in the whole of the Yugoslav Federation starting from Belgrade. In this spirit our nomination stands also as an answer to all those who, in an irresponsible way, are partners in crime with and continue to have, as their point of reference, Slobodan Milosevic, the person responsible of the criminal policies carried out yesterday in Croatia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina and today in Kosovo.
