Brussels, March 23, 1999
Dear Colleague,
I am pleased to forward you the postcard that the Radical Party has created to launch its campaign for the adhesion of Macedonia to the European Union without delay.
As you already know, the recents visit to Brussels of your Prime Minister, Mr. Georgievski, and of the Delegation of the Macedonian Parliament to Brussels have been very helpful in vigurously riminding the European Institutions of Macedonias European ambitions.
I am persuaded that one must rapidly strengthen this mechanism. A Parliamentary resolution calling on your Government to table without, delay a, formal request of membership to the European Union would be particularly opportune.
I take this opportunity to seek your help for another initiative of the Transnational Radical Party, namely the ratification of the Statute of the International Criminal Court. Macedonia, together with other 77 other States, has already signed the Statute. Nonetheless, only one State, Senegal, has ratified it so far. 60 States must ratify the Statute in order to allow the Treaty to enter into force.
I hope that we can count on your support for those two initiatives.
Best regards.
