THE THIRD MILLENNIUM WITHOUT DRAFT SLAVERY

Petition to the Russian Parliament for the abolition of conscription and transition to the professional principle of armed forces recruitment

We, the undersigned citizens, appeal to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, being convinced that the current system of armed forces recruitment based on conscription represents useless, senseless and harmful anachronism regarding both unjustified violation of human rights and the needs of national defence.

We consider that Russia should have fully professional, effective, rather small-numered armed forces, that would correspond both to real requirements of the national security and international cooperation, as well as to economic possibilities of the country.

For these reasons, we call upon the Russian Parliament:

to abolish in peace time the compulsory military service and establish a fully voluntary and professional principle of armed forces recruitment by means of changing the Federal Law "On Conscription and Military Service" as well as other respective laws.
