Expulsion of the TRP from the UN/Press Conference: press release IS IT A CRIME TO BOMB THE CHECHENS OR TO LET THEM SPEAK? Brussels, July 13, 2000. In 1995 the Transnational Radical Party was recognized the category I consultative status as NGO at the UN ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council). Other organizations, such as Amnesty International, Fédération Internationale des Droits de l'Homme, Human Rights Watch, the International Socialist, International Democristian, and the International Liberal, enjoy the same status. Last April, in Geneva, during a Session of the UN Commission of Human Rights, the TRP gave a 5 minutes "right to talk" to Mr. Akhiad Idigov. Mr. Idigov, member of the TRP, is president of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chechen parliament, an institution established by the Russian Federation after the 1997 Russian-Chechen peace agreement. In the last few months Akhiad Idigov was invited and heard by the Foreign Affairs Commission of the European Parliament and by the Parliamentary Ass
embly of the Council of Europe. Last May, the Permanent representative of the Russian Federation at the United Nations asked for the expulsion of the TRP from ECOSOC, with the accuse of having violated the rules and principles of the United Nations, as it gave the floor to a terrorist organization (Mr. Idigov); and by saying that the activities of the TRP are financed by incomes from the international drug-trafficking. At the end of June the UN NGO Committee discussed the TRP Case and decided to adopt a three-years suspension. Now the Assembly of ECOSOC will have to decide whether to ratify or reject such sanction This should already happen on July 27 in case the Russian attempt to accelerate the process will succeed. Statement of Olivier DUPUIS, Secretary General of the TRP: NB: The accuses of the Russian Federation against the Radicals are, at the same time, very grave and ridiculous. To define as terrorist an elected representative of the Chechen people like our friend Idigov, is absurd. He has a regu

lar passport, recognized in all the European Capitals. To present the radicals as the "Lords of drugs" is absurd and defamatory. It is surreal that just those who, undisturbed, bombed Chechnya, now pretend to sanctions those who gave to floor to bombed Chechens Radical Party Tel. +32-2-230.41.21 Fax. +32-2-230.36.70 HYPERLINK "http://www.radicalparty.org/" www.radicalparty.org
