WEEKLY NEWS ROUNDUP |
Tibetan Service staffers Changchub Dolma and Norbu Samphel review the week's top stories--this week, events in Bosnia and His Holiness' visit to the U.S. In reviewing his visit, they begin by describing Congressional passage on voice vote of a resolution welcoming His Holiness on his arrival to the U.S., repeating the 'sense of Congress' that Tibet is an occupied country and that His Holiness is its political representative. Also reviewed is a release from the State Department to the effect that U.S. policy remains the same: that Tibet is under the sovereignty of China, that the Dalai Lama is recognized as a religious leader, not a political leader, and that the U.S. does not recognize a Tibetan government-in-exile. All of His Holiness' activities in the U.S. are then summarized. |
