JOHANNESBURG, Oct 25, 1995 (AFP) - The exiled Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Tibet, is to arrive in South Africa on November 2 for a three-day visit during which he will be guest speaker at the 11th annual Desmond Tutu peace lecture. His visit has been organised by the South African chapter of the World Conference on Religion and Peace, the national news agency SAPA said.
The Dalai Lama is expected to speak on world peace and the environment and may also touch on Tibet's struggle to gain independence from China.
He was forced to flee Tibet in 1959 and lives in exile in Dharamsala, India. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
A meeting with President Nelson Mandela has been tentatively set for November 3, SAPA said.
